What are your expectations as you think about gathering with your local church this Sunday?
I don’t know your local church but I’m sure you can rattle off a quick list of things like,
- I expect to sing some songs.
- I expect to hear a sermon.
- I expect the communion crackers to be stale.
God gives us reasons to expect so much more than this when we gather with the church.
I don’t know your local church but here is what you can expect this Sunday.
Expect to Encounter God’s Presence.
“In Jesus you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:22
Expect Your Love for Jesus to Increase.
“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:14-19
Expect to be Equipped for Mission.
“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…” Ephesians 4:11-12
Expect God to Exceed Your Expectations.
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
May God increase our expectations as we gather this and every Sunday.
